FAQ'S

  • Are all your birds handraised?
All of our baby birds are handraised- they're removed from their nest at 2-3 weeks of age and relocated to our cosy brooders. From here, we proceed to handle and hand-feed them, progressively weaning them as they grow by offering a huge variety of fresh foods, pellets mixes, nuts and seed. When their feathers begin to grow enough to provide sufficient warmth, we move them to a cage to begin practicing perching and playing. We do sell some older birds occasionally that aren't handraised, though they are typically breeding pairs that we're selling (usually due to either a current lack of room or our decision to move into different species of birds).
  • Are your birds DNA sexed?
All of our baby birds are DNA sexed before we take deposits for them. They are blood sexed (a drop of their blood is taken during nail trimming) and come with a DNA sexing certificate to assure you of their gender.
  • What do I bring to pickup my bird?
If you're coming to pickup your bird from our place, bring a travel cage with a small amount of toys and perches, some water and, if the journey home is long, some food. Otherwise, bring yourself, any questions you may have and cash to secure your lovely baby (unless you've confirmed another form of payment with us). You're more than welcome to bring family members or friends- the more, the merrier!
  • What should I expect when picking up a bird?
As we run a home-based business, upon confirmation of visiting (by appointment only) you'll recieve our address. We'll organise a convenient time and date for you to pickup your baby bird. There's plenty of parking so park wherever you like- we'll be inside our house saying our goodbyes! Further directions will be emailed when the appointment has been made. To make an appointment, please contact us.
  • Are your prices negotiable?
Our prices aren't usually negotiable, though it depends on the bird. Prices may be considered high due to the quality of the birds and the time spent on them. If you believe a price is unreasonable or wish to negotiate, feel free to contact us and we will see what we can do!
  • How should I pay?
We accept cash or bank transfers, though cash is often easier if you're visiting us in person to pay (as the internet out here is a bit questionable!).
  • Do you have a priority list?
Yes we do. Anyone on our priority list will be notified before the general public when baby birds are up for sale. To get on our waiting list, please head to our "Birds for sale" page. Please seriously consider whether you want to buy a bird from us this season before asking to go on the list.
  • What hand rearing formula do you use?
Our hand raising formula is Vetafarm Neocare, we use this from when we pull the babies out of the nest at 2-3 weeks, up until they are weaned. It's healthy, tested and completely safe. All babies leave Iridescent Feathers with a perfect plumage and in prime health.
  • What do I do if, under changing circumstances, I can no longer care for my bird?
If you ever need, we will take back your bird and provide it with a loving home here at Iridescent Feathers. Our baby birds come with lifetime return, however we will not refund you if you do choose to bring your little one here to us.
